New year, same Mahomes.
First off, happy new year everyone! I hope that 2022 is everything you hope for (unless your hope is world domination or something weird), and that the end of 2021 found you well!
One thing I can say with utter certainty is that I rang in the new year doing exactly what I wanted… charting Patrick Mahomes’ snaps in a freakishly exceptional performance and thinking about Byron Pringle’s role with the Chiefs. Mrs. MNchiefsfan tapped out a little before midnight, and the kids were long to bed, and so I started 2022 out with a bang. Much like how Mahomes ended 2021.
Never take for granted how easy he makes that look.
You know what we do here every week (well, almost every week); We look at every single dropbback by Patrick Mahomes and chart them to determine how he played outside the stats sheet and outside the influence of everyone else.
Doing so is how we’re able to separate Mahomes’ play from drops, poor blocking, or whatever else might throw off even the most in-depth statistical analysis. The goal, as ever, is to separate the QB play from what is around the QB to get a better gauge on how he did on his own (and get a real idea as to what did and didn’t go well against an opponent). I’ll be filling in a few missing weeks’ numbers when I get some spare time, but for now, let’s just have some fun looking at how Mahomes was close to perfection against the Steelers. That section may be a bit shorter than normal, as I also want to touch on Byron Pringle’s big day and what he has (and hasn’t) shown he can add to the offense.
