Great article. A win is a win, regardless if Mahomes throws for 600 yards. I credit the coaching staff for helping Mahomes recognize that he doesn't have to be superman every single game.
I haven't really seen much wrong with Patrick's performances other than the dozen or so plays he made the O-line's job harder. My biggest concern is more that we seem to be playing more puff puff pass than what this team is good at. There is obviously some defensive scheming going on but the coaches surprisingly haven't been adapting in their typical genius level. We were outcoached by Gruden who Andy is flat out better than. Yes, it was the Raiders Super Bowl, but the Chiefs typically adjust and shut down teams playing for a moral victory.
I'm wondering if, in Andy's mentoring, Eric is calling more plays and is leaning into what he knows best.
The Chiefs tend to play down to their preconception of the opponent and get dumbstruck when the opponent plays better. While coach speak says otherwise, the players need to come into every game thinking they are picked to lose. Otherwise we get pantsed like by the Raiders.
Patrick is fine. The Chiefs are fine. We will win a crap ton of games. Heck we should be able to win out with the schedule ahead of us as with the exception of the Chargers and Old Man Buccaneers our schedule is as soft marshmallows. In the AFC only the Steelers or Titans are potentially a problematic matchup for what this team CAN do when it's focused.
This type of “regression” was predictable the day poor ol’ Bob Sutton left to help ruin the Falcons’ defense. Mahomes isn’t putting up mind boggling stats because he doesn’t have to. Unlike, say, Russell Wilson, who is playing with the equivalent of the 2018 Chiefs defense.
Complaining about what's wrong with Mahomes is akin to complaining about the tiny oil spot left on the garage floor from a Ferrari 250 GTO. Chiefs fans are so spoiled. Even Pat's average performances (by his lofty standards), produce several How-did-he-do-that? plays that most QBs can only dream of. The fact that he's able, and more impressively, WILLING, to throttle down his otherworldly talent when the situation calls for it should be embraced, not criticized.
You make a great point! I think until Mahomes, Chiefs fans were bludgeoned too many times when the Chiefs didn't take advantage of every break. My cousin, my son and I were miffed at the offense last Sunday in the heat of battle. 50 years of paranoia haven't completely left. Combine that with the big play ability of the offense and I think we are really ready for a 2018 offensive performance. Thanks to Seth for this review. Of all of the great work he does, these are the articles I can't wait to read. It's a great time to be a Chiefs fan!
When we get a good Oline ......OMG!
How about the fact that the weather was pretty nasty for both games? That's not helping the offense.
And honestly, they just haven't really needed to do more.
That’s true. As Teresa Paylor always says, they aren’t wasting the good plays when they don’t have to.
Great job Seth

Steelers and Titans better do something about that pass defense if they want to compete!
