The fact that these connections will only get better to a point that, when Hollywood gets back he'll purely be "icing on the 3-peat cake", is scary and fun to think about at the same time. Maybe we can get him back next year and it'll be a convenient cover during the inevitable Rice suspension. I'm just typing out my butt at this point though. Can't think too far ahead... one week at a time.
I made this comment on the Nick Bolton article yesterday. It’s about Patrick so I’m pasting it here:
Off topic, but one of the underrated plays in the Ravens game was when Mahomes caught his own pass. Prevented the pick, kept the clock running, willing to sacrifice himself for team goals. (And that last part is one reason he's so great, imo) But, I had noticed earlier in the 4th quarter (and it was bugging me) that he was consistently hiking the ball w/10-12 seconds left on the play clock. If Patrick had been taking care of business earlier in the game things would not have been so tight at the end. So a rare criticism of the best quarterback I've ever seen play this wonderful game. Seemed out of character.
Honestly, I feel like Mahomes snapping the ball before even 10 seconds left on the play clock when they are trying to "ice" a game is a rarity. I don't know why but he just likes to get the ball and go, I would be happy if they waited till around 5 seconds but it just doesn't happen until they are in victory formation.
Many times I find myself taking for granted how fortunate we are to have Patrick. What he accomplished last year is overlooked by the national people but has made him a better QB. Hopefully he can stay healthy for a long time
There is so much potential with Worthy in this offense, even going off of just the first game of the season (he just looks so natural and fluid running routes). Obviously, Worthy had two TD's but his day could have easily been even better, I can't wait until Patrick starts looking to Worthy like he does Rice and Kelce. The unfortunate injury and IR stint for Hollywood could expedite that process.
First, don’t forget to give deep thoughts on creating an aggregate weighted score of these measurements to yield a QBR-like “Patrick Perfection” rating.
Second, one throw that I agonized over was the miss on the swing pass to the leaking Samaje. Oh my gosh…that looked to be a 40 yard TD. To my untrained eyes, Patrick unleashed his throw before Samaje had turned his eyes to look for the ball. Now I know Patrick and Travis do this magic often but they have a Vulcan mind-meld developed over many seasons. Samaje had only been here a week? Just wish Patrick had held the ball a second longer (and I think he had the protection to do so). But that’s my amateur opinion.
May the Chiefs ruin the Cincinnati mayor’s day tomorrow.
That pass to Samaje was definitely going for a TD. And I agree it was the most painful because Pat misses that throw once out of every hundred. A successful rendition of that play against the Bengals would be delightful.
Thanks, Seth - Usually my fav read of the week. Disturbed on the Hollywood news, and potential that he misses most of the season. Given that uncertainty, do you think they look for WR reinforcement or put more emphasis on the TE's and RBs? If we lose Worthy or Rice to injury, we are looking at a roomful of niche players.
I agree that another injury could be difficult so perhaps reinforcements should be researched. But I am hopeful that this could be a “make lemonade” moment that allows Wiley to get meaningful snaps. 13 formations, anyone?
So disappointed to not see what Brown would look like in this offense. I guess the script writers thought the season would be too unfair. Curious to see how they address this change. I think the WR room is still better than last year, but as others have said, one injury could be tough. Stoked to see Rice, Worthy, and all the other weapons maul a talkative Bengals defense tomorrow.
Wish we could see this offense with Hollywood brown in it. Still hope for the 2nd half of the season I guess. Good analysis as always
Thanks seth, great write up. If you haven't seen the chase Daniel analysis video yet, you should check it out.
I was really impressed with Chase' video - I didn't know he was doing that, I'll have to go and see if he's got a catalog since it was so informative.
Always love theses reads.

I don't blame Pat for the missed Worthy endzone shot. Pat had to launch it high with hang time because he knew he was about to get hit.
Great appetizer for tomorrow, Seth. Two thoughts…

Love me some 13s! Good call.
How about 13 personal with TE trips to the right for an all TE quick screen? Might be an interesting mismatch.
I like the cut of your jib! 🤩
Just when I'd allowed myself to think you weren't going to get to the Pat film review this week, it appears in all its glory. Thanks, Seth!
