I left this comment on the other article. You must break down the Hardman to CEH to Mahomes to CEH screen pass. It will make the most beautiful GIF of all time. I need your analysis even if it's just "WOW".

Man that was a cool play, and it felt like they didn't give it nearly enough attention on the broadcast.

It was the most beautiful 7 yards I've ever seen.

Are we getting a article on the defense this week? I feel like the way they played deserves some breakdown. Great article as always Seth.

Absolutely, might be more general stuff on The Athletic and more specifics here.

Sounds good. I'll keep an eye out for it.

Andy put a lot of material out for Belichick to study this week. I don't think it was an accident.

This is my favorite film breakdown you've done thus far. It's organized in such a way as to make a large amount of information digestible to a layman, such as myself. Thanks Seth.

Hey, that's very gratifying to hear, and that's the goal!

Any chance you can talk about Gay's snaps this week? That would be awesome. Thanks!

Yes I would love an analysis on Gay's play!

Too many words in your title, Seth. Should have went with, "Insanity: trying to beat the Chiefs". 😉

A question going into this game was whether it was more likely that Marcus Peters would get an interception or Reid & Mahomes would bait him for a long TD. Guess we saw the answer to that one.

That was literally my first thought when I was watching the highlights. "Wow those guys are nuts! They keep blitzing and he keeps destroying them!"

It's just bad practice to keep doing the same ineffectual thing over and over.

hey Seth, can I make a request? (I'm going to anyways so I don't know why I am asking lol) can you take a look at the routes and advantages that the Chiefs were going for with splitting out the RB? seemed like just about every other play CEH was splitting out wide. I loved to see it and I think we will see some big plays come from it.

I can, though I can answer some of that here!

Splitting a RB out wide generally allows you to know whether the opponent is going man or zone in a way they can't disguise like they can with WR motion (though pattern match is still an issue). It also allows you to lighten up the box and remove a potential blitzer at times, or show that a player likely IS blitzing.

Further, it can create mismatches on the outside, with a RB against a cornerback (good for YAC if the ball gets to them quickly) or a RB against a LB (with a speed/quickness advantage).

Also, NFL defenses, do NOT do a great job dealing with RB's out wide with their zone coverages, though it's gotten better in the last year.

Thanks Seth! I hadn't heard of the advantage of shifting a RB vs a WR. I really can't wait to see CEH making DBs look silly out there.

He looked really, really comfortable in the passing game.

After much internal debate, back and forth, weighing the pros and cons, I have come to the following realization: I think this is quite possibly the best twelve bucks I've ever spent.

With the possible exception of the first pan pizza I ever bought from Pizza Hut back in 1979. That first sizzling piece right out of the pan? Mmmmmmm...

Patrick is beginning to do P.Manning/Brady/Rodgers kinda plays. They blitz, pick it up, adjust and kill them.... They stay back, take what they give you and kill them by a thousand cuts.... The best part is he's got the arm, intellect, touch, leg and most importantly, the intangibles that you can't teach when things break down and make something happen himself. That TD pass to Hill should've ended all discussion last night about who's the better QB between Patrick & Lamar. Patrick is the full package and than some with his intangibles.

It's funny, after reading your stuff for years, I'm actually beginning to look at what the other players are doing to make the plays work instead of strictly at Patrick during the game.

He's definitely showing that development. And that's awesome to hear! Though it's hard to look at anyone else haha.

That swing past to CEH to beat the blitz that you show above stood out to me even at the time. Going back and seeing it now, I love the play design that has the tight end and the wide receiver quickly pinching inside, drawing the coverage away, creating some screen like traffic, and leaving the back wide open out on the perimeter. Andy/EB showed their fun sides again, while still being competitive pricks!
