The manner in which he embarrassed Reid was Helaire-ious. Bright future for this dude.

Great content! I had missed JJ Watt almost stopping CEH in the backfield on that 4th qtr play. I was skeptical CEH could live up to the hype. I was also not in favor of picking a RB in the first round. But, between Sneed and CEH, the rookies made the Chiefs picks look omniscient! I’m still worried about CB depth, especially now with Ward’s broken hand and watching his replacements.

Veach has been crushing it. But yes, CB depth is definitely a concern.

Seth, remember how right you were about Mahomes? Add CEH to your list! Of everything you wrote, the two things that stick out to me are: 1. "closing strong to help ensure a win," and; 2. "force teams to re-think any strategy of leaving light boxes and daring the Chiefs to run." As you aptly stated, the stats may not reflect this, but the impact on overall strategy could be massive. And even if there is no impact on the team, I know I felt a lot more confident as a fan sitting on a lead at the end. Fan mental comfort matters, right?!?

On a different note, I'd be interested to hear what you think about the Texans playing a lot of Cover 2, pushing the Chiefs to a shorter passing game. Was that a factor in the heavy dose of running in the game plan? Does this potentially foil some of the defensive game plans of future opponents?

This season is going to be (fingers crossed) fun, and your newsletter makes it even more so. Thank you!

Cover 2 almost always leads to more run plays, as it empties the box (usually) of a defender. So I do think that was part of it as well. Thanks for the kind words!

Loved watching him run, but it was infuriating watching the goal-to-go playcalling! Why did we keep running to JJ Watt's side? He was blowing up every short yardage situation. Literally one of those plays would've been great to run play action. Who knows, maybe Andy was just playing it simple with the game already in the bag?

Also, nobody is talking about CEH getting NO targets. This offense hasn't even hit 4th gear yet.

Correction. He was targeted twice, but my point still stands.

Further correction: the offense barely got out of 2nd gear. :-)

By the time they got to those final carries late Reid was done showing ANYTHING new. I do wish they would've just tried the same thing to the other side though, lol.

I think they switched into second gear and cruised.

Great breakdown as always, Seth. Looking forward to many more. CEH was a thrill to watch. Any concern that 25 carries was a bit much? I’d have liked to see Williams handle that last drive at least. I wanted to run onto the field and wrap Clyde up with bubble wrap at the end there! Maybe the thought was they have extra rest before next game so just let him go ahead and have a day.

I really want them to use D. Williams in the four minute offense and keep CEH as fresh as possible. I wouldn't be opposed to putting both in the game and putting Williams in the backfield with Mahomes and CEH with Watkins and Kelce in a bunch and Hill on the other side. Mahomes would have two running backs to go to and only have to count defensive players to know where to go with the ball.

There's such a radical difference in their ability to gain extra yardage that it's going to be tough for them to take CEH off the field without tipping the call, tbh.

I agree with you. Maybe more Darrel Williams with 2 score leads though. I love the idea of both of them out there in the four minute offense. CEH lined out wide with Watkins and Kelce would be terrifying for defenses. Especially with Hill on the other side.

I think it's situational. Before the 7:15 mark in the 4th Q (when the game was in hand and it was time to just try and run out the clock), he had 18 carries.

It's a good year for it, to be sure :)

A little late getting here, but I’m interested to see what CEH can bring to the passing game. Like you said, his running can complement Mahomes, but his real value will be if he can provide another pass-catcher to this offense who ALSO can run if necessary. If defenses can’t be sure whether CEH is a runner or a receiver on any given play, that uncertainty helps the offense as a whole.

Seth, did you notice how Mahomes kept throwing well behind the sticks on most 3rd downs????

I noticed you clipped the video where Fisher tackled him short of the goal line. I see you, homer.
