Go with LB's next year -- I have Gay's talent becoming crucial and I have written that he would make Hitch better. Hitchens had a far better 2nd half of the season than the first. Niemann didn't improve at least in my eye test, he went backwards. Do you see a LB draft pick that you think Veach/Reid/Spags and Co. would go for? say in round 2 or 3? Corollary to the question: What about DO?D and Wilson?
I don't see that as a big need for them with Gay and Hitchens in place, and I can tell you that the team's opinion of Niemann is higher than yours (and mine, frankly). I don't think that this point it'll be a high priority position.
Given our struggles on O-Line this year, how much of an impact will the return of LDT and Lucas Niang have next season? I feel like I haven't heard anybody talk about them. Are they enough to not have to invest heavily in the draft?
I answer the LDT question in part 2, but I really liked Niang's college film. Even after he hurt his back he was able to play well despite having to TOTALLY alter his slide into a backpedal. I think he has really high potential at tackle.
I love this site and all the work you put into it, but I couldn't disagree more about the Colts. I think we'd beat them as easily as we did in the 2018 playoffs. Give me and endless stream of old quarterbacks in the cold. Sneed and Mathieu to combine for two sacks and three picks against Rivers. I think Indy, Pitt is probably the easiest reasonably like path, while Ravens, Bills would be the toughest gauntlet.
But it is your Q&A, and I am just glad to be here. Especially after yesterday, I needed some Chiefs talk.
I think there's plenty of room for debate on the subject! From my end, I'd point out that the '18 Colts had a poor pass rush and have swapped in Buckner/Houston, so it's a very different animal.
And those vanilla 'smart' defenses (especially Cover 2) have a tendency to get picked on by higher level offenses in playoff situations. Granted, Buckner's addition changes that character somewhat and Leonard is a monster, but I still don't 'fear' them the way I have some of the truly talented, dynamic defenses that have slowed us in the past.
They feel a little fools-goldish to me. Seth is right - styles make fights. But I don't think that historically the Colts style of defense translates terribly well to the post-season. Maybe I'm just putting too much weight on how easily that system was dissected a couple years ago.
Two questions: If you could add any player from chiefs past to the current roster on both offense and defense, who would you add and why?
Whether its offense or defense I expect our first few rounds of the draft to be invested into the trenches. (Though secretly I'd love another top tier TE to pair with Kelce) Where do you see our top 3 positional needs for 2021?
Also, can you post a link to the 1997 Snickers Chefs commercial? I'm flabergasted that hasn't resurfaced with their new levels of success. People need to know!
I love that commercial to this day and you can find it easily on YouTube. I live in Donkey Land and I always refer to our team as “my Chefs”. Steals their thunder when then want to use it as an insult. To me it’s a term of endearment.
It seems to me there are a ton of Chiefs fans that think plugging LDT back in the starting lineup is (at least a part of) the solution. Am I the only one that remembers his putrid play of 2018 and 2019?
There's definitely a little bit of retrograding when it comes to LDT. He struggled in 2019 for a lot of the season. That said, he's shown a high level of play before and so I think the hope is he can return to it.

thanks Seth. I know Niemann is a top football mind...
Would you rather watch the game by yourself and be free to fully lose your mind at every little thing or do you like watching with others more?

Aieeee! The dreaded back problem! Please, no more of those!
That was a typo on my part. It was a hip injury with a surgery to fix it!
Thanks, Seth. I feel much better...I think? 😳😬

Rivers is... hard to predict, lol!

Excellent point on style!
In your wise opinion, aside from OL, what position of need should be filled with the first picks of the draft?
Let's not forget that we will have two OL returning next year, who took the year of because of COVID.

Nope, you are not the only one.
Yeah I'm not all that excited to see LDT back but as Andy always says you always need depth when it comes to the OL.
Not at his price tag. I'm hoping he retires since COVID will still be an issue in 2021.

it's the cynic in me that believes he was going to be cut this year anyway.
I would have loved seeing the Chiefs beat Rivers one more time. Alas it was not to be.
