Great news, indeed! It's much easier to find ONE suitable replacement at tackle than two. The Chiefs would have found themselves in a nearly impossible situation attempting to find starting caliber tackles on both sides. Mitch's return increases the odds that Veach will be able to fill the LT hole either in-house or via free agency.

If Mitch is back, our definition of the 2021 Front Five is further along than I anticipated. From what I read, his recovery/rehab time is short. We should know by camp if he is ready to go.
I wonder if he would be open to signing an extension to reduce his cap hit next year? With Mitch likely to be ready for the new season it looks more likely that Fisher is a cap casualty.
With the Achilles injury, Fish would probably have to go by way of an injury settlement. I'm not sure what impact that has on the cap. Alternatively, I wonder if the Chiefs and Fisher could agree to rework his deal to give them some relief in 2021 but to give him additional term/security--if they think he will recover and return to form.
When I saw this reported, I thought "I'm going to have to tune in to 810 to see if they have Seth on to talk about this." Thank you for not making me wait!
Question - is there a track history of linemen coming back from Achilles injuries to return to form? The Fisher stat that slays me is they are 27-1 the last two seasons with him at LT and 4-6 without. Context is important - his 2019 injury corresponded with Mahomes' bad ankle and then knee injury, and the Chargers game last year should not be part of any statistic. But that is still wild.
This is the best offseason news we could have gotten. I was fully expecting the Chiefs to be starting Niang and Remmers at tackle next year, which would not bode well. While I don't expect Fisher back before the playoffs (although everything I've seen has listed him with an "Achilles injury" rather than a definite tear), a healthy Schwartz is Y-U-G-E.
Actually, it doesn’t even specify back-surgery. I am happy for him and pray he returns to good quality of life. But how many friends and family do we know that pronounced their own back-surgeries as less than successful? I am hopeful he returns to football but not counting those chickens until they hatch.
If Mitch is good to go, what are the chances he moves to the Left side adn Niang or someone else cover the right? Would save trying to find a LT until you know more about Fisher.
When this came across my timeline, I was quite excited. Now we have one less thing to worry about. I still think we need to draft a tackle but it can now be a development style pick rather than someone who needs to play right away.
My first Chiefs jersey purchase was a Mitch Morris. The next year he was gone. My next jersey purchase was a Mitchell Schwartz. So glad I'll get to use it for at least another year. lol
I also hope he starts getting the national recognition he so richly deserves.
First the suggestion. I would like for you to have a question/comment link to you where we can ask a question unrelated to a specific article. If there is one, I don't see it.
Question #1. Could you explain "injury settlement" in regards to Eric Fisher. Why should Fisher or anyone else accept anything less than the full value of their contract? Can injured players be cut with no compensation? What if their injury was in the last year of their contract? What if they have many years to go and the injury will take more than a year to heal? Etc. Etc. How does this all work?
Question #2. When you use highlights in the newsletter, do you have to pay the NFL compensation for their use? This came to mind as I was listening to Petro say ESPN's new NFL contract includes the use of highlights for all their highlight shows and that other networks cannot use them.
Schwartz coming back is definitely a reason to party!! (or write an article)
Pleasant surprise? Seth you're a master of the understatement.

Wow. Wasn't expecting this. Woo hoo! Thanks Seth.

First: Completely agree on Schwartz.

Not trying to be a wet blanket, but I can read his tweet in a way that says he excited to get healthy. But does not say excited to return to football.

Seth-Tell me you can get on board with this:
LT-Trent Williams (3 yr 50 MIL that’s really a 2 year deal)-Go all in at LT with whatever deal
LG-Osemele
C-Dickerson Rd 1 pick
RG-Niang
RT-Schwartz
Depth: Allegretti, LDT, Rankin, Remmers (resign)
Hi. Two questions and a suggestion
