The inarguable most fun moments of the Chiefs 2022 season, Part 3; Moments 6 through 1
We finish our journey through the best moments of the 2022 for the Super Bowl champs. Fun was had.
The “dead zone” of the NFL offseason is good for a couple of things; In-depth film reviews on players currently rostered, and the time-honored tradition of ranking things. With that in mind, it’s time for one of my favorite offseason projects; Looking back at the most fun moments of the previous season.
In the 2022/23 season, there were a LOT of fun moments. So many, in fact, that I couldn’t bring myself to narrow it down to a top 10 list and had to go with a top 12. And even then, I found the need to have 8 different “honorable mentions.” Which is what happens when you win the Super Bowl. In Part 1, we looked at those honorable mentions. In Part 2, we examined moments 12 through 7. Today, we look at the absolute most fun moments of the 2022/23 season, at least from this guy’s perspective.
When I first started this project (narrowing great moments in 2022/23 began months ago), I genuinely did not realize what a special season we just witnessed as Chiefs fans.
I don’t know how I missed it. Maybe the daily ins and outs of trying to cover a team well distracted me (and that pesky day job). Maybe all the uncertainty about various components of the team (remember, they completely revamped their WR group AND their defense last offseason) made it too stressful. Maybe those tough regular-season losses to the Colts, Bills and Bengals left a bad enough taste that I couldn’t catch the sweet moments.
Whatever the reason, it was only once I started trying to pick out the most fun moments of last season that it hit me; We witnessed one of the greatest seasons in Chiefs history, and one that contained too many special moments to count. The confirmation of everything we already knew Patrick Mahomes to be. Travis Kelce tightening his grip on the GOAT argument. Andy Reid morphing his offense yet again, an innovator in a league of copycats. An entire rookie class stepping up… AGAIN. Chris Jones being Chris Jones. Castaways from other teams becoming heroes.
It truly doesn’t get better than this as a fan. We’ve witnessed a dynasty (2 SB’s in 5 years, another SB appearance, and 5 straight AFC championship games is a dynasty in the NFL, make no mistake) unfold these last five years. We got to watch them seize that title in Super Bowl LVII, forever cementing this last half-decade as the “Chiefs” era.
Immediately prior to the Chiefs winning their first Super Bowl in 50 years, I talked a lot on Time’s Ours about how important it is to savor these moments. How there’s a real danger of missing (in our focus on the results) the sheer enjoyment of cheering for a team as great as this one. Enjoy it, I said. Because these moments are rare.
I hope you enjoyed this season, because once you take the time to do so, it’s easy to see how unforgettable it was. Let’s talk about the most fun moments of the 2022/23 season, just Super Bowl championship for your Kansas City Chiefs.
