Thanks (and a giveaway) from the Chief in the North
With our year anniversary approaching, it's time for a thank-you and to give away a piece of Chiefs history to MULTIPLE subscribers
You know what was awesome? When the Chiefs won the Super Bowl.
I will never forget the moment Damien Williams broke free (on the back of an exceptional block by Anthony Sherman) and sprinted into the open field. It was a genuinely special moment for Chiefs fans everywhere.
My endlessly patient wife was kind enough to capture the moment it happened and my family’s reaction, and I still watch the video at least once a week.
Having a video to remember that day by is great. Having some memorabilia from it, though, is even better. And today, you’ve got another shot at getting some!
Because of the unmatched generosity of Dani Welniak of KCTV, I’ve been able to give away confetti from that fantastic game to subscribers twice already . And you know what? I want to do it again while we celebrate a big milestone here at the Chief in the North Newsletter.
The one-year anniversary (June 15) of this site is approaching. That feels crazy to say, but it’s true. With that in mind, it’s only fitting that I thank you all for how incredible you’ve been for subscribing. Frankly, I don’t know where to begin. But I’ll give it a shot.
When I started this site nearly a year ago (it somehow feels like it’s been more time and less time than a year, if that makes sense), I wrote the following:
This newsletter has been a long time coming, and is something I’m deeply excited about. I’ve long wanted to have a direct line of Chiefs coverage from me to you, Chiefs Kingdom. I wanted to find a way to deliver straight to you the sort of coverage that you’ve (hopefully) come to expect from me over the years, without having to worry about clickbait or SEO or the other things that dominate the sports coverage world. If we’re able to make this work, that’s precisely what this newsletter will be…
This is scary, trying something new. I’m both excited and nervous at the same time. But I do know that this is the best way forward to trying to bring you exactly what you’ve asked for from me, as often as I can.
Nearly a year and 112 articles later, I’ve tried my best to fulfill those words and be a direct line of content you enjoy, as well as have some fun along the way (not to mention a few typos and parenthetical asides). Watching this community grow and seeing familiar names pop up in the comments has been a genuine privilege. Your trust in me to invest in a startup site like this is something that means more than I can possibly describe. It’s been harder, and more fun, than I thought it would be by a mile.
Because your support has been beyond what I’d dreamed possible, I’ve been able to take the recent step of making this place my primary content outlet. Yes, I’m still writing for The Athletic, appearing on Time’s Ours, and now working with Ryan Tracy over at RGR Football (which you should really check out if you haven’t), but this site… this site has become my baby. And that never could have happened without your support and subscriptions. THANK you.
Which brings us right back to Super Bowl LIV confetti, a genuine piece of Chiefs history. I want to give some away, and I want it to be to some of you awesome people.
So here’s the deal… IF you’re a subscriber… you’re entered to win.
That’s it. It’s that easy. Feel free to drop a comment below if you want, but you don’t need to! Literally all you need to be is a full-fledged subscriber, and you’re entered to win. I’ll be picking THREE of you as winners this time, not just one (because we’re celebrating, people!)
And to be really clear (I don’t want someone missing out on a technicality!), being a full-fledged subscriber means being a paying subscriber, rather than just being signed up for the free articles. That’s how this site is driven, through subscriptions. That’s why you don’t see ads and that’s why I can dedicate as much time as I do to it!
But the the thing is… you can still subscribe for 60% off by clicking the button following this paragraph. That’s 12 bucks a YEAR (not a month lol), with the price never, ever, ever, ever going up. Once you do that, you’ll be entered to win some Chiefs history, and you’ll receive every single article published here.
I’d make this a mailbag, but I’m currently churning through Frank Clark’s snaps from 2020, and I want to focus on that so I can write about it next week (always keep grinding, right?). So instead, feel free to drop a comment if you want, or don’t! Either way, if you’re a subscriber you’re entered to win. Simple, eh?
I already feel like I’ve won, having the support of such a fantastic group. It’s always a good week to be a Chiefs fan, but thanks to you all, it’s been a great year to be privileged enough to write about them.
Thank you. You all mean the world to me. I cannot wait to see what’s next for the Chiefs, or what’s next for this newsletter!
That's 12 bucks a month, not a year!!! hahahaha I'll never get that right the first time.
Can confirm that I got my confetti that I won last time!! It now sits proudly on my desk. My advice to people hoping to win: mention Jamaal Charles whenever possible.
