Special Edition Mailbag/Giveaway: The Chief in the North justifies your ideas
Let's try something a little different and give away some Super Bowl LIV confetti while we're at it.
I owe you all an apology. I just looked and saw that it’s been almost FOUR MONTHS since we’ve done a mailbag/giveaway here at the Chief in the North. That’s unacceptable, and I am ashamed. But it’s never too late to make things right, right?
So we’re back to a mailbag giveaway. It’s time. And today, we’re going to mix it up a bit and play a game with the mailbag I’ll call “create an argument.”
The basic premise is this… In the comments, present me with a move the Chiefs could make (or any other actionable idea for the NFL, football, sports, or just life in general) that people might disagree with, and I’ll do my best to come up with a rational (or at least semi-justifiable) reason your idea is a good one. The idea can be as reasonable or as “out there” as you choose. It’s not my job to judge, just to create an argument for you!
I’m sure I’ll fail at times (I have no doubt some of you will have some pretty off the wall ideas and am a little afraid to be honest), but it just sounds like too much fun to not do. If you want to ask a regular mailbag question you’re more than welcome to, but let’s have some fun with it!
And of course, because you all deserve it, I’ll pick two of my favorite scenarios/questions and send the subscriber who posted it a piece of Chiefs history that I have thanks to the incomparable Dani Welniak of KCTV, Super Bowl LIV confetti taken from the field amidst the celebration. It comes with a cute little container too!
By now, you know the drill, but here’s how you enter to win…
Submit your idea for the “talk me into it” game or regular question below in the comment section, then I’ll answer it in the next day or two AND you’ll be entered into the running to win that adorable container of Super Bowl LIV confetti.
Comments can only be made by full-fledged subscribers, so keep that in mind.
If you’re not a subscriber and want to submit a question/idea, all you need to do is subscribe at the link below for 60% off (12 bucks a year) forever. The price of a footlong sub gets you there. Hit that button. Then get your question in!
I’m excited to see what scenarios you maniacs try to have me justify (please don’t present anything that literally CANNOT be justified, like Jamaal Charles not being a Hall of Famer or… well, that’s one of the only things I can think of at the moment), and to answer whatever regular questions you all have!
As always, I want to thank you in advance for being such a great, active community and for participating in this stuff. It’s so much fun, and one of my favorite parts of the job. You’re the best.
All right… let’s make some arguments and answer some questions. I’ll be answering them tonight, tomorrow, and wrapping up Saturday afternoon, so you have until then to get your comment in and be entered to win the Super Bowl LIV confetti!
The NFL needs to move the Super Bowl to President’s Day weekend. The day after the big game is a built-in, national holiday! What could be better than celebrating Super Bowl Sunday knowing that you don’t have to get up for work on Monday? Bigger and better Super Bowl parties make the fans happy..
Isn’t the Monday following the Super Bowl the most missed work day? Businesses would be happy to not lose productivity.
To make this work, the league will need to stretch the season. They can incorporate an extra bye week. With another week of content, the NFL would generate more TV revenue. And, the league gobbles up even more of the sports calendar. The league is happy. .
Players get an extra week of rest. Focusing on player safety by staying fresh and healing injuries makes the players happy.
Everybody wins! How is this not already in place? Which member of Congress do we need to contact?
Keep in mind… you said crazy:
The Chiefs should have Reid and Bieniemy swap positions. This allows Reid to scale back a bit and focus solely on offensive innovation. The lightened load may also allow him to stay a few more years.
Bieniemy is able to be the head coach for many years to come. This solves the succession concern that keeps nagging (at me at least) and every time another team pillages our coaching staff. And Bieniemy could bring a fresh perspective on fixing our defensive problems. I can’t imagine EB settling for Sutton’s DC performance for as long as Reid did, or even allowing some of the “Spags being Spags” failures to reach the heights they did this year. (Foot note: I like Spags, but that first CIN game was an utter failure to adjust on his part.)
Too crazy? Or can you make this one sound rational?
Thanks for what you do, Seth!
