Great article and one that sums up how deranging it is to interact with not just rouge internet fans, but a “legitimate” NFL media apparatus that keeps pushing this. It’s bananas to me that Kelce, Mahomes and the commissioner of the league have to field these questions.

I don’t know why we can’t just call it what it is - crybaby loser coping. That’s it. I’d have more respect for someone if they just came out and said they’re sick of the Chiefs. But this constant whining after. Every. Single. Game is pathetic. Go Chiefs, finish the job.

I thought Patrick’s response to “becoming the villain” hit the Mark beautifully. And so much more adult than the sports writers, et al that asked the silly question (not the descriptive word I would have chosen in spoken discourse):

“I don't even think it's embracing being the villains," he said. "We embrace who we are, and we believe we play the game the right way.”

I’m so glad there’s at least one adult in the room. ‘Nuff said! Time to play the game!

Well said as always Mr Chief in the North. I've adopted the Madagascar method, "Just smile and wave Boys" to these useless arguments. I like being in the greatest moment of my football fandom and I'm not going to let internet trolls ruin. I've watched these Chief teams give their all week in week out. Fight against the best everyone has to throw at them game after game, from top tier opponents to scrappy underdogs. No one can convince me the refs threw games for us. Instead I'm happy to cheer this team on for another ring. Man it is great to be a Chiefs fan in 2025, something I never thought I would see at herm edwards football camps.

You cannot reason someone out of a position that they didn’t use reason to take.

People root for their teams (athletic or political). It is extremely difficult to get someone to change their mind, as Seth alluded to. Emotion comes first and then second comes a reason to support the emotional decision. Most of us don't realize this about ourselves, especially in the moment - me included! Go Chiefs!

Being a Chiefs fan truly does feel like being in Groundhog Day (an all-time classic movie) and Edge of Tomorrow (it’s crazy how overlooked/underrated this movie is!), but so much better. Of course, we may still be in the “repeating the same thing over and over is cool” portion of our movie.

Thanks for writing this. I’ll be sending it to some of my friends who suffer from Chiefs Derangement Syndrome. It probably won’t make a difference, though- they either root for long-time losing teams (like the Raiders) or teams the Chiefs have beaten in Super Bowls (like the Niners).

Agree on "Edge of Tomorrow"- it should have been a bigger movie. Emily Blunt said on Howard Stern last summer / fall that they're close to making "Live Die Repeat and Repeat" which is the sequel now that Tom Cruise has a deal with Warner Bros again.

I'd watch that! I really liked that show.

We can add Looper to the list of movies in which "time is a flat circle". Except in that one (spoiler alert), the main character allows himself to be killed in order to break the circle and set the world on a different course.

It's so crazy (how overlooked Edge of Tomorrow is)! It's got decent effects, a good plot, is well-done with a pretty tight plot... I just re-watched it on the flight home!

How does a guy who is so biased toward the Chiefs, make such a convincing, objective case for the truth? It's why I subscribe to Seth Keysor. Thank you Seth. This was a Super-Bowl-level post. Go Chiefs!

These smooth brained idiots just can’t bring themselves to look inward and realize….their team just isn't good enough and hasn’t been for years. They are currently showing the coping skills of a 5 year old.

The internet is not "evil." Like all human tools, it's how it's utilized that matters. That it's been used, by those with much to gain, to move our entire culture toward largely rejecting facts in favor of freely surrendering to all those ways our emotional brains tend to fool us, is the most discouraging part of living in modern times. Go Chiefs.

Yup, we're in a post-truth anti-intellectual-authority world, where social media algorithm-echo-chambers blast the most susceptible people with whatever drives engagement -- fear, outrage, shoot it right into the lizard brain. In fairness if we were on the other end of this arrangement, if we had Patrick Mahomes throwing down MVP seasons with the best team we'd seen in 30 years and every single year ended with Josh Allen having a parade... I'd probably be crazy, too.

One of my best buddies is a die hard Bills fan. I got one text from him after the game going crazy about the refs - haven't heard from him since. We're about to send a wellness check to his house or reach out to his wife ....

If everyone is so damned sure it's rigged, why aren't they all getting rich off these so-called fixed games? Put your money where your mouth is, you cowards!

Right? You can't lose!

I've been making similar points, people who say "they" are rigging the games... who are "they"? Do we think the owners got together and decided to crown the Chiefs? Putting aside whatever reasons you could concoct for this to happen... can you really picture Jerry Jones signing off on that? He gets the script for the year, see how things go for the Cowboys, and signs off on it? And yes, the clearly incompetent refs (I don't want to pile on because honestly they're being asked to do the impossible) are rigging the games... do you have any idea how incredible you'd have to be to see that RTP on Patrick against Anderson, conclude in real time that it wasn't ACTUALLY a penalty (it was), make an evaluation of whether this play is one that you need to fix for the Chiefs to help them win the game but not run away with it, and then throw the flag? We're talking about superhuman abilities at that point.

At this point anyone who complains about refs being rigged, I ask to see their bet slips. If they haven't bet a second mortgage on the Chiefs, they're full of crap.

Are "they" in the room with you right now....

Wow. You absolutely crushed that article. Thank you for providing this insight. ALL that matters is that WE know our team (Chiefs) is historic, among the best EVER. Enjoy it folks-- you may never see anything like this for a long time. Im grateful to be a Chiefs fan. I believe the more hate, the more the Lord pushes back. KC is BLESSED.
