Patrick Mahomes Weeks 9 & 10 film reviews: Mixed results
Looking at every snap by the Chiefs QB against Tampa and Denver
I’m not going to lie to you, it’s been a tough last several weeks.
Before I get into the film of Mahomes over the last couple of weeks (And I apologize for missing Week 9’s film review), I do want to take a quick non-football detour.
My boss and friend Jonathan passed away last weekend after battling cancer for the last year and a half, creating something of a shockwave personally and professionally. He was a terrific trial attorney, a good man, and a wonderful boss. He was the type of prosecutor who cared deeply about justice, fairness, and ensuring that we got it right as often as possible as opposed to just trying to win every case that came across our desk. He was also an eternally optimistic person who saw our office through some very difficult times. He loved his family deeply and we spent as much time (if not more) talking about that and life than the law and our work.
Jonathan and I used to talk football quite a bit. He was (unfortunately for him) a hardcore Bears fan, and so you can imagine those conversations were rife with envy from his end. I’d come into work annoyed about one thing or the other to do with the Chiefs, and he’d reply, dripping with sarcasm, “Oh, man, yeah… it must be so tough watching all these Super Bowls and greatness every day.” And then I’d laugh and admit I’ve become a little spoiled. Then he’d say something encouraging anyways, even though my irritation was silly, because the man couldn’t help himself but to say something encouraging. You never met him, but please let me assure you that is your loss. I’ll miss my friend Jonathan every single day.
Trying to keep the office afloat and work through some of the feelings that always come when you lose someone you care about has taken up a rather large amount of my time, and so this week’s film reviews (though it’ll cover both Week 9 and Week 10) will be a little abbreviated (and even less proofread than normal). I’ll give you the charted numbers and talk about a few things that stood out from each week. Thanks for your patience with me!
And for what it’s worth, there’s some real fun stuff to talk about from the last several weeks, particularly from a terrific outing against Tampa where Mahomes was en fuego.
I still can’t believe this throw. It’s one of the best I’ve ever seen Mahomes make when factoring in pressure, distance, and the window he needed to fit the ball into. Just unbelievable stuff.
And let me tell you, Mahomes was exceptional pretty much all day against Tampa. And then there was Denver, which contained some real problems in pass protection that affected his play noticeably as the game went along. Let’s talk about both, starting with Week 9 against Tampa.
