I've seen several enterprising kids teach themselves enough with open source data/tools to get a toehold in the field, so I'd prioritize schools with good sports business opportunities more broadly vs selecting for such a narrow major. SMU is the school I'm most familiar with that fits that bill.
Great review as always Seth, Ketchup man is still good and looks ready for the season. On an unrelated note, what's your opinion about the Mahomes fortnite skin? You gonna buy it for your kids?
While watching, it sure seemed like Mahomes has been doing even more work on improving his feet. He still bailed outside from time to time but, when he wasn't bailing, his movements seemed measured and controlled. Am I wish-fulfilling or does he seem to be taking another step (pun very much intended) in that regard?
It's quite early to say, but in this game at least it was a tick more consistent on quick throws, which has been a weak spot of his that occasionally messed with his accuracy.
It's that time of year when we're teased with small glimpses of Pat doing Pat things. It's that time that we remember the greatest QB on the planet plays for our Chiefs. And then we smile.
Mahomes finally has a receiving corps that he is 100% confident in 8 different guys - Juju, MVS, Skyy, Mecole, Watson, Kelce, Gray, and Fortson - and as a result, anytime the Chiefs send out four or five receivers, this offense will be nigh unstoppable. My fearless prediction for 2022 is that the Chiefs will have six or more receivers/tight ends with over 600 yards, and it will be glorious.
I think it's too early to say that for sure, but it could be true. It's training camp and a pre-season games. He's working the ball to different guys to give them all a chance to perform and be evaluated by the coaches.
It won't take long for Mahomes to figure out who his favorite targets are, the guys he trusts most when the windows get tight. The rest will be relegated to "Blake Bell and Marcus Kemp" land. Which is exactly as it should be.
I think they are definitely much deeper than previously, though it's worth noting there are definite questions with some of those guys. BUT... on paper it's significantly better than what they had in terms of depth. Question will be at the top end with Juju's health, MVS doing more than deep threat, and Moore's development.
Agreed. I'm optimistic about all three, and suspect if this were the regular season, Juju would've played through. And I'm bullish on Skyy. Hoping that Mecole + MVS will be one of those "greater than the sum of the parts" situations, as they force coverage to move deep, opening the middle of the field for our tight ends and crossing routes. I don't think any of our 8 guys (besides Kelce) is a clear standout, hence the "6 for 600" prediction, not "8 for 800" or "4 for 1000". We'll have to see how durable everyone is, of course. But 600 yards is only ~35-36 yards per game in a 17 game season. Guys can take the field less, due to our depth, save their legs, and still hit that target with 2-4 completions per game.
Don't know if you caught it, but the latest (sort of) negative comments about Mahomes came from Sammy Watkins, who compared him unfavorably with Aaron Rodgers. I hope this sort of thing, from players and coaches and media alike, keeps coming all year long. And I hope Patrick sees or hears every bit of it.
I noticed a great chip block by Kelce on the throw to Watson. He pushed the end into a second DB that was blitzing from that side, which allowed Wylie to sort of handle them both for a moment. If he doesn't do that then one of them get's free.
It also looks like the RB releases out of the other side. I don't know whether that was a mistake or not. Maybe you just have to credit WAS for disguising the blitz well.
Last year he was the grim reaper and now a fire breathing dragon. Can't wait to read your article when he's SB MVP.
The methodology you've developed is perfect. It's easy to understand for casual fans and gives the dig-deeper details that others crave when looking for analysis. I'm accustomed to seeing throws like the one he made to Fortszn that its good to be reminded PM2 is (fill in your choice of superlative here)!
It was a really nice moment, and I thought it was a classy thing for GB to decline the penalty.

Oh man, that's sadly outside my purview. But Eric Eager with PFF is a guy who might be able to provide some good direction, and is a nice guy!
And hey, I hope he enjoys!
Interesting insight and makes watching the games more fun. Thank you for the time it took to do this review.
Appreciate it, hope you enjoy all to come in the season!
Great review as always Seth, Ketchup man is still good and looks ready for the season. On an unrelated note, what's your opinion about the Mahomes fortnite skin? You gonna buy it for your kids?
I very, very likely will hahaha.

*Pat doing Pat things*
It's awesome.
Don't let his mom know you called him Pat..🤣
Oh for sure.
I continue to love these reviews Seth. We all know that Mahomes is amazing yet these reviews show us in minute detail why he is amazing.
Glad you enjoy!

Yes, coach :)
"like a dropped pass that tips into the air."
Tyreek. Ahem.
I said no names!
Yeah, you said it, but did you really mean it?

Big barrier could be injuries. That’s a lot of guys staying very healthy! 🤞🙏
Counting on 5th and 6th options to carry that much of the load seems highly speculative to me at best, even putting aside the possibility of injuries.
Actually, I guess mid-season injuries to #1-4 could actually assist in the forecast happening for #5 & 6! 🤔😬
Hey, I have a great idea: LET'S NOT FIND OUT!
It won't take long for Mahomes to figure out who his favorite targets are, the guys he trusts most when the windows get tight. The rest will be relegated to "Blake Bell and Marcus Kemp" land. Which is exactly as it should be.
You know, I like the idea of three 2,000 yard receivers!
I believe that I would find that reasonably acceptable. 😝
I'd rather have six 1000 yard receivers! Hahaha can you imagine trying to cover everyone?

Media: Hey new guy, do you want to say that your new QB is not as good as your old QB.
New Guy: No. In fact, for all you fans out there, our QB is better than my old QB.
Old Fans: >:-(
New Fans: :-D
Media: $$
Pithy AND accurate. Well-played!!!
Funny stuff. Sammy is an eccentric dude, especially for a football player.
What should even be more entertaining media fodder is that his stop at Baltimore with Jackson was ignored. Just skip over right back to Patrick ;)
👍
You've probably seen this, but it's a nice video of Simms amped up about Patrick: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bf9awVv9cbQ
What is better than some love for Patrick?👏🥳. Thanks for the link!

Sometimes the other side just makes a nice play. And Kelce did a great job there!

Thanks for the kind words! I keep trying to figure out things to add to the methodology, but as of now I really like it.
I get the 16th comment in honor of Lenny Dawson...
(hat tip)
Sammy W said yesterday that his new QB Aaron Rodgers is at a whole other level than Mahomes. What does Seth K say?
Never mind. I see you responded to the same question above, and quite humorously.
hahaha.
So you’re saying this Mahomes kid has a chance to stick in the NFL? If he puts in the work to polish his game?
One day at a time.
