Can you knock out Sewell and Darrisaw so that we, as chiefs fans, can get the hopes of having them out of our heads sooner?

Ha! I will consider that.

You're probably too young to remember but this Teven Jenkins guy is giving me Trezelle Jenkins flashbacks. Bad case of PTSD. If we draft him he will have to go by Mike or Justin or Walter.

Post Trezelle Stress Disorder?

The entire organization suffered from that for years.

I do recall that name, and that's fair.

What - no arm length info?!?!

That's readily available on the interwebs, and I don't really care much about it tbh haha.

Yeah, I heard the discussion on Time's Ours, so I thought I'd put that in there.

hahaha I figured!

See RGR Football and Danilo dealing with Arm Length. It's amusing but he is right. Arm Length is goodness but the difference is small in reality.

I'd definitely love for you to check out my faves - Walker Little (always love stanford OL) and Forsythe!

Forsythe is up next with Cosmi, Darrisaw, and Eichenberg! Little is on the list as well.

Great article! I appreciate the insight on how Leatherwood projects as a G vs. T. I imagine that will be a common theme throughout these 16 prospects (where maybe half or so could project better at G than T). As for my vote on who's next, I'd say Radunz & Cosmi, as they are consistently expected to be available at 31.

I've gotten through Cosmi and like him a lot!

Love the article Seth. I wonder if, at the end of this series, you would be willing to rank these guys in order of favorite to least for the Chiefs.

That's the plan! I'm going to do it in terms of tiers, though, and formulate a draft strategy around it.

Please review Little and Eichenberg next. Glad that Jenkins passes the sniff test. We may need to pick him to replace Mike Pennel as our requisite Topeka native on the roster!

Eichenberg is up! Little will come soon.

Thanks as always, Seth. Our “Chefs” need to hire you as Vice GM!

Great analysis as always! My biggest concern with Jenkins is that he appears to have played mostly Right Tackle. Did he look just as good on the left side?

Cosmi definitely interests me so I’ll be anxiously awaiting your take on him.

One of the games I reviewed was LT and he looked perfectly comfortable.

Been looking forward to this since you said you were working on it on Almost Entirely Sports. I personally feel like Veach is likely to trade up for his man in this draft. Wouldn't surprise me to see a trade like when he went after Mahomes. If we can lock down arguably the 2nd most important spot on the team, then 2 1sts and a 3rd is fine by me. Also, what do you think the chances are of bringing back Fisher this year on a 1 year deal? He should be ready for the playoffs which is when our real season begins anyways. Works for both parties since he will be able to prove he's able to perform still and get that next contract.

The next 2 I'd like to see done are Cosmi and Eichenberg.

I wouldn't be surprised if he went that route, but the more of these guys I watch the more hesitant I am to trade up. There's a lot of decent options here.

Would love to see Dillon Radunz next with Spencer Brown. Thanks Seth. Really looking forward to the rest of this series.

Both are on the list! Next are Cosmi, Darrisaw, Eichenberg, and Forsythe

Seth do you think Jenkins can play on the left side? Lot of mixed opinions on that amongst the fans.

Absolutely I do, yes.

Spencer Brown and Forsythe next. I think Jenkins will be gone before the 31st pick and I am not sure that Leatherwood is really left tackle material. Brown appears to be an athletic freak but lacks the polish/experience whereas Forsythe has the length and more experience of playing left tackle but maybe not quite the athleticism?

They'll come soon!

It seems like I have seen Cosmi or Eichenberg on more mocks than any of the others, so they would get my vote. But I look forward to the whole series.

The closer we approach D-Day the more l strongly suspect Brett will trade up; likely aggressively. We have dire need to select a player to master left tackle and do so at a high level immediately. As I read the analysis of the various prospects there seem to be few that fit that criteria. Hence the urgency to trade up. Compound that with a very reasonable paranoia that sitting complacently at 31 will only encourage other OT needy teams to trade up and grab any candidates about to fall to us as they all recognize our gaping hole on the line.

As much as I dislike Brett’s trading-up habit, in this instance I am very much in favor of doing so this year in order to score in the OT sweepstakes. Only reason I see to step back to some degree is if we sign an adequate veteran pre-draft.

Veach is definitely someone who likes going up to get his guys. I wouldn't be remotely surprised if he traded up to grab a tackle

How did you come up with the list of tackles to review?

Basically polled twitter and took the top 16 names that came up the most frequently and matched up generally with Dane's list of top 16 guys.

Based on today's press conference with Andy Reid, did it sound to all of you as if the Chiefs are still quite bullish on Lucas Niang? And believe he could their LT?

Expand full comment
author

I wouldn't believe a word Andy Reid says right now, haha.

That said, I like Niang a lot. But the plan has generally been to play him at RT from everything I knew. We'll see how it goes, of course, but that's where he played all through college.

Expand full comment

Ha, yes Andy plays everything close to the vest. It was just interesting that he mentioned that they had "aspirations of potentially moving him over to play that spot." Of course that's easy say in retrospect after Niang sat out the season!

Like everyone else here, I look forward to your final verdict (ie. draft suggestions) after all your analyses are complete.

Expand full comment

They believed in Niang from the start, which was why he was drafted a year earlier than needed. They knew that Fisher and Schwartz were in the over 30 crowd. They could not have anticipated the virus, LDT and Niang sitting out, Both bookend OT's going down injured, losing Kelechi Osemele in week 5. Yada. What a year. Niang is going to be a very good NFL OT. Aside: He has the glide with his footwork and could work the left side. Change first step footwork to the opposite foot.

FWIW (and perhaps it's not worth much), the videos Niang is in regarding technique, etc, have him taking a right side set every time I've watched.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuCd9brzObg

Perhaps the plan with him has changed, but my initial understanding was that the was the plan for RT, where he's always played. I do think he has the feet for either side.

Expand full comment

agreed. my point was he could play LOT and has the feet which would make it a potential. Agreed with the feet for left or right. An adjustment that would occur if the Chiefs put him in place to take over the role on the left. I'd leave him ROT if possible and find the right player for the left. Odd thing, I keep going over obtaining a LOT and Dickerson both. then maybe another OT, later on for the left -- fix the complete OL in a single draft for a year or three. Then if Mitch can return, or Fish, icing on the first layer of icing. Reid hasn't ruled out the possibility. I'd say that Fish has a longer recovery/rehab but who knows? I love both our OT's and hated to see what happened to them, occur.
