I rarely do this, but subscribers, with this one being unlocked, feel free to share with Chief fan family/friends/Facebook/Reddit/wherever else you internet.
I haven't had an unlocked piece in a while, and I'm told I'm terrible about promotion lol. So if you know someone you think would love this who doesn't subscribe, send it their way! Appreciate you all as ever.
This is a great idea, Seth. You're like our own hidden gem, but it doesn't have to be like that. Not to slight this one, but your previous article may represent your best work to date. In my opinion, if I were trying to sell myself to a wider audience, I'd make that one available, too.
I've told lots of people and told them where to find you, but everyone is busy and kinda lazy if we're honest. I can lead 'em to water, but can't make 'em drink. Sometimes it's good to toot your own horn.
My cousin, a hardcore Chiefs fan, unexpectedly found himself living in Seattle about 15 years ago. I forward all of your freebies to him! Still working on getting him to subscribe, though. He's an attorney and you know how cheap those guys can be!
And on that note of people being less than willing to search things out, I really need to come up with one of those... whatchamicallits where you can just take a picture with your phone and it leads you to the site.
I trust you, Seth, but I also trust Reid and the plan. So I agree with Fred and argue we should be patient. The next zipper game is against the Bills, so I wouldn't be shocked to see his snap total decline Monday with new wrinkles ready for the Bills.
In the two games where KC dominated on offence Moore had 13 and 22 snaps. The weeks they didn't, he had 2 and 8. So is Moore really the key to opening up the offense? Or, if you believe the chatter about who is/was calling plays, is Andy just calling his number Moore (couldn't resist) than Bienemy?
Matty Lane did a filmroom of the Chiefs running game last night versus TB (everyone subscribe to KCSN) and Moore stood out several times in his blocking and ability to seal the edge so the RB could get outside. I wasn't expecting him to pop like that given his limited number of snaps. Reid has shown a tendency to trust receivers who can block so I would expect him to start getting Moore snaps.
What would/should the Chiefs/Reid give up for Kyle Pitts to play along with Kelce? Because I like choas and want to watch opposing NFL teams break.
1st rd + Hardman + CEH etc.... ??? Like what would it take? I mean, ATL clearly have no idea how to utilize him. Imagine Reid getting his hands on Pitts, Kelce & Patrick?
It’s a bit frustrating to see other rookie receivers contributing early while those drafted by the Chiefs get minimal playing time. Andy Reid is a great coach, but it should be possible to give a rookie some assignments they can do right away without requiring them to master the whole offense.
He's been the same guy his whole career, so it's not surprising, but it's definitely frustrating at times. That said, there have been times (Maclin and Jackson) where he was able to bring them along more quickly, so MAYBE we see an uptick.
May as well go opposite here: why is it frustrating? The Chiefs draft low and rarely even have many draft picks. What rookie receivers deserved more playing time?
2013 - call Kelce a WR for argument's sake? Took awhile to develop though.
2014 - NO ONE
2015 - Conley wasn't all that great. Is he still a journeyman?
2016 - Robinson had plenty of chances to develop. Hill became a star WR after learning.
2017 - Chesson
2018 - NO ONE
2019 - Hardman...the jury is still out
2020 - NO ONE
2021 - Powell
What receiver have the Reid Chiefs ever drafted that was ready to go right out of the gate? In Philly, Andy was perhaps 'the same guy' but only Maclin and Jackson were good enough to step right in. His biggest star receiver there was a free agent. (And Coach Reid managed him pretty well considering.)
Maybe Moore IS the guy this year, but the fallacy of Reid and Spagnuolo being unwilling to play rookies is based on a small sample size...and it's become a "Chiefs Kingdom" mantra that has now replaced "Andy Reid can't manage the clock."
That was true in the past. It was relatively rare to see wideouts make it immediately in the first year. But with the wide open spread formations in college ball, and with their emphasis on the passing game in recent years, you are seeing more first and second round receivers making an immediate impact in the NFL in their first year.
Moore might not have the immediate impact of a Waddle or a Chase, but in the very few plays Seth showed us he seems to be able to create separation and get open, and has the ability to catch everything that is remotely near him. You would think that this would be an immediate improvement to the passing game., because at this point the only reliable go to guys are Kelsie and JuJu - both very good in the short and intermediate passing game. IMO Moore would help particularly open up the long passing game.
I was just looking at receiving yards leaders after games #4 and I was surprised that the only rookie with even 200 was Olave. This is supposed to be a deep WR class so we are not the only ones taking baby steps.
I said this when we drafted him, but he reminds me of a suped up Albert Wilson. I like him alright, but his ceiling is a reliable #2 WR and furthermore he'll always be not George Pickens to me.
Miami paid Wilson like a #2, and I think that's what Wilson's ceiling was at the time but he got injured shortly after the trade.
I like Moore but he's a very safe, conservative pick in the 2nd round. I wanted us to go for George Pickens or Christian Watson, one of those guys with a higher upside. Let Mahomes make him a star.
1. Because Miami paid him doesn't make him a #2. It points more to Miami being a bad organization.
2. I would love to see one of those other two guys in a Chiefs uniform. I don't know how safe Skyy was as a pick but it looks like he can play. Hopefully Andy will let him.
That's a really interesting comparison, though depending on what aspects of Wilson are "suped up" I think you end up with a significantly higher ceiling than that. Much smoother in and out of breaks, better catch radius, better releases IMO. Of course, all of that remains to be proven...
Based on what you've seen (and at the risk of getting you in trouble) do you feel he could eventually become a #1 WR, that commands that volume of targets?
Sure, if the skillset from college translates. Good routes, maintaining speed through cuts, being able to get through contact and good hands with decent athleticism can get you there, no problem.
Of course (and this is probably where some hesitation comes from for people) the margin of error narrows when you're 5'10" and not 6'2" or whatever.
I'm very excited for more Skyy snaps but who will it be at the expense of? Or will it simply be more 11 personnel plays if/when he emerges and less 12?
"screaming into the void" - I love it! Kind of reminds me of this: 😱
For those who don't know, that's based on a famous (and genuinely horrifying) painting by Edvard Munch called "The Scream." I'm not much of one for expressionist art but that painting has always spoken to me. I'll leave it up to all you amateur Freudians to analyze what that means....
Haha. Agreed, not much into the Expressionist movement either. "The Scream" is certainly the Expressionist equivalent of "Stairway to Heaven" (or "Freebird") in classic rock circles.
Stairway to Heaven, huh? I taught private lessons for several years at a music store in Overland Park Kansas. So many people came in to "try out" guitars and ended up playing (and sometimes butchering) Stairway that we finally got so sick of it that we put up a big sign with "Stairway to Heaven" in big black letters, covered up with a red circle and slash. We meant it, too!
As a confirmed jazz snob myself, I might rank "The Scream" as being the equivalent of Charlie Parker's "Donna Lee" or "Anthropology." But that's just me....
I have a framed print by Charlie Podrebarac creating a BBQ analogy of this painting. The screamer is a hog being approached by a panel truck bearing the logo “Ribs Are Us”. Did I mention I like BBQ?!
Haven’t finished this article yet, but saw your comment about not wanting to sift through the Chargers game for his two snaps there. No need. They were the kneel down snaps. Also, every week I post this pillbox chart on Twitter that would tell you exactly when his snaps (or anyone else’s) were, if that’s helpful.
So what you're saying is that Moore is better.......
Moore or less.
It's coming, Seth. Based on his increased number of snaps against TB, we're about to see MORE Skyy. Patience is a virtue, but no one said it was easy.
I'm sorry, I thought this was America and I can get whatever I want right NOW! :)
You're thinking of the old America, before the "experts" ruined it.
Don't get me started on that! Everyone around here will rue the day.....
More Moore
(I don't adore that he wore 24)
FYI, the two chargers snaps were kneel downs at the end of the game, so didn’t miss much there
Ha! Glad someone checked that out...
Well… now I’m excited about Moore! Skyy is the limit babyyy

I can't make two publicly available in a row! ;)
I'm kidding, I just did.

We're the worst tbh.
Always a man of the people, Seth. We appreciate you, sir. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some sharing to do.

Dangit Curtis, if you're going to be totally logical about this it's hard to argue with you.
I refuse to even think about correlation vs causation and I'm gonna assume it's all Moore hahaha.
Moore showed up as a very willing (albeit undersized) blocker, which definitely matters. Juju has done some work too.
Quick question Seth for something to ponder on.
I can't imagine ATL is eager to part with him, but offer him a 1st and a 4th and see what they say!
This is inspired! The successor to Gonzalez and Kelce with several years of overlap. If only! 🤤😳🤩
It’s a bit frustrating to see other rookie receivers contributing early while those drafted by the Chiefs get minimal playing time. Andy Reid is a great coach, but it should be possible to give a rookie some assignments they can do right away without requiring them to master the whole offense.
Might be more difficult with Magic Mahomes…
I was saying this on Sunday while watching other games. I'm glad Skyy contributed on Sunday; helps my patience.
He's been the same guy his whole career, so it's not surprising, but it's definitely frustrating at times. That said, there have been times (Maclin and Jackson) where he was able to bring them along more quickly, so MAYBE we see an uptick.

Cvane, I agree with everything you wrote. And Moore is refreshing in that he catches the football when it hits his hands ;)
Hopefully he'll quickly become that Edelman or Amendola type of player for Patrick (as alluded to in the broadcast).
I was just looking at receiving yards leaders after games #4 and I was surprised that the only rookie with even 200 was Olave. This is supposed to be a deep WR class so we are not the only ones taking baby steps.

I would never have called Albert a #2 but that's just me. I'm excited about Skyy, and hopeful. Ever the optimist, I am.

Hardman and Watson IMO.
I’m okay with that. And I like them both.
Andy needs to give Skyy Moore more sky.
lol
Skyy’s the limit? (Okay, I think I am really starting to recycle the Skyy and Moore puns into the ground. I have been known to do that.) 🙄
No remember the sky messed with skyy and made him fumble returns, which made him less not moore.
Excellent point. Less is Moore.

I'm not too knowledgeable about jazz, but Thelonius Monk's "Brilliant Corners" is amazing.
I have a framed print by Charlie Podrebarac creating a BBQ analogy of this painting. The screamer is a hog being approached by a panel truck bearing the logo “Ribs Are Us”. Did I mention I like BBQ?!
Yes, I think you may have mentioned that once or twice! 😁
Continuing the “Moore” pun theme, at some point is the theme song to “Mondo Cane” resurrected? I am betting you are familiar with it, BPD.
Gotta admit I missed that one. But I have a reasonable excuse: I googled the movie and discovered that it's not really in a genre I enjoy!
And you may have been very young when released. But the song is very beautiful.
You should absolutely go to the Munch museum in Oslo
