Chief in the North 2-year Anniversary and Giveaway/Mailbag!
It's been 2 years. You are all awesome. Come tell me what you want from this site in Year 3 and enter to win a piece of Chiefs history.
We’ll get to the mailbag, and the giveaway. But first I need to gush a little about you.
Two years ago today, the Chief in the North Newsletter was born.
When I posted the very first article here previewing what was to come, I had no idea what to expect. Would people be as excited as I was? Would they hate it, or worse, be indifferent? Were there REALLY enough people interested in going beyond the box score about one NFL team (even one with Patrick Mahomes) that a Substack dedicated to it would work?
I should have known better than to question Chiefs Kingdom and its dedication to knowing as much as there is to know about their team. Because two years later, your support has allowed this site to go from a small side project to my primary outlet for content. It’s become a place with a thriving comment section that’s so on-point and respectful to one another that I haven’t had to moderate a single comment in two years (I didn’t know that was even possible on the internet) WHILE correcting my inevitable typos. It’s become a place that is… well, it’s yours as much as it’s mine.
Because of that support, I’ve been able to write in as much depth as I’ve wanted about every topic under the sun over the last year. There are of course the dozens of different ways to discuss Patrick Mahomes’ greatness, including how he’s a breaker of charts.
I was able to chart every snap of the greatest game of Mahomes’ career and discuss what made it so incredible, then a week later delve into the much tougher subject of what went wrong for him in the AFC Championship.
But of course, we’ve been able to dive into so much more here in the last year…
The know your draft crush wide receiver series, along with reviewing the film of George Karlaftis, Skyy Moore, Trent McDuffie, and pretty much every other Chiefs 2022 draft pick.
Looking in-depth at the film of free agency acquisitions like Justin Reid, MVS, and Juju Smith-Schuster.
Charting half the season of Orlando Brown to try and ascertain what his price tag should be.
Walking through the incredible rookie year of Creed Humphrey.
Examining the 2021 Chiefs’ unmatched ability to get in their own way.
The surprise contributions of Melvin Ingram and the way complementary pass rush works.
How Nick Bolton developed over the year to hit a ceiling I didn’t think he had.
Breaking down one of the most dominant performances of Chris Jones’ career.
That’s not even close to touching all the pieces I’m proud I had an opportunity to write over even the last year (and of course, in the year before there were dozens more that I was thrilled to write, which you can find in last year’s anniversary article). And the reason I was able to write them was because of your support. None of this happens without you. Thank you.
So let’s celebrate 2 years in the best way I know how; A mailbag/giveaway, this time with a side of reader feedback.
We’ve done this before, so you know the drill. Submit a mailbag question below in the comment section, then I’ll answer it in the next day or two AND you’ll be entered into the running to win a piece of Chiefs’ history, a container of Super Bowl LIV confetti.
This time, in addition to regular questions, let me know what you want to see from this site in Year 3. I want to hear from you, the people who have made this site work, if there are certain topics or methods of content delivery that you’d like me to explore. Want me to talk more about my favorite frozen pizzas? More pieces on football and the NFL as a whole? Revive the Chief in the North podcast? Tell me what you want! Or, just say hi. That’ll do!
We’re celebrating today, so I’ll be picking 5 winners from the comment section. Yes, FIVE. I’ll email the winners next week, and we’ll all keep the post office afloat together.
Comments can only be made by full-fledged subscribers, so keep that in mind.
If you’re not a subscriber and want to submit a question/comment, all you need to do is subscribe at the link below for 60% off (12 bucks a year) forever. The price will never, ever change if you lock it in here. Hit that button. Then get your question in!
Before I let you get to the comments, I have one more “thank you” to offer, and it’s related to that little button above. When I started this site, I set the price as low as Substack would allow, and then I created a “coupon” going 60% lower so we could get to that “$12/year or $2/month” price point. I was told by people I respect that I was crazy for setting the price so low, and that it would never be sustainable. Because of your incredible support that hasn’t been the case at all.
Seriously, thank you. I cannot wait to see what comes next, and I’ll see you in the comments.
Oh, hey, it’s a great year to be a Chiefs fan, isn’t it?
Man, congrats on 2 years! The reviews/breakdowns are the best on the web, nobody illustrates the how and why as well as you're doing it.
For year 3, is love to see a breakdown of the AFC West and what we're up against. I think you'd do a better job than "the chargers are gonna win and the raiders and broncos are gonna be much improved" that we're seeing around the web.
Love it and look forward to what you've got to say!
Can we get a post on Jamaal Charles and the utter insanity of his stats?
