Rashee Rice and Wanya Morris film reviews: Looking at two Chiefs rookies at once.
Examining how Rice and Morris both fared in their first NFL(ish) action, because it feels like a good day for a twofer
You know what’s better than reviewing the film of one Chiefs player? Two, that’s what.
Following Kansas City kicking off the 2023 season (well, the preseason part of it) against the Saints, I looked at the snaps of Justyn Ross as well as Felix Anudike-Uzomah. And I have to tell you, it was a lot of fun. So much so that I figured… why not do it again (review the snaps of a pair of Chiefs players), but do it all at once? And so here we are.
Rashee Rice and Wanya Morris are two of the rookies in Kansas City with the most eyes on them. Part of that comes with the territory of being 2nd and 3rd round picks (respectively). But it’s also due to the fact that both could play very important roles this season and over the next few years. The Chiefs are hoping Rice can step into a receiver role more quickly than your average receiver in Andy Reid’s offense. And Morris has gotten looks at both left and right tackle as the team tries to develop their backup swing tackle and look at whether he could slide into the LT spot following the 2023 season. No pressure, guys!
As we’ve talked about previously here, when it comes to preseason the “how” is much more important than the result of a play when you’re trying to figure out who these young guys are and how they’ll project for this season (and beyond). And so, with that in mind, I went back and reviewed every snap for both Rice and Morris to get a feel for that “how.”
Let’s talk about what both rookies did in their first NFL-adjacent action, what traits they showed, what questions I have after seeing them in action, and where we’re at with each as the season grows ever closer. We’ll start with Rice, because let’s face it, WR is the glamor position.
