Know your Chiefs draft crush: David Bell, Jalen Tolbert, and Alec Pierce

We look at our last group of wide receivers as the draft closes in, with one in particular becoming a new favorite of mine.

Welcome back to “know your draft crush.” As I do every year, we’re examining a whole position group that the Chiefs appear likely to attack in the draft. This year, I’ve picked wide receivers (with perhaps a side of edge rushers). I’m looking at 13 receivers, gauging various traits and giving an overall impression of what type of resources I’d expend to grab them. In the finale, I’ll put them into tiers and talk about what direction I’d go if I were Brett Veach.

With each prospect I’ve looked at speed/acceleration/agility, release ability (ability to get free at the line and how they do it), route running, hands/strength at catch point, and yards after catch ability. Here are the receivers I’m looking at in alphabetical order:

Calvin Austin III, David Bell, Treylon Burks, Jahan Dotson, Drake London, Skyy Moore, Chris Olave, George Pickens, Alec Pierce, Jalen Tolbert, Christian Watson, Jameson Williams, Garrett Wilson.

These were the names brought to me most often from what I can tell, so they’re the ones I chose. We examined Treylon Burks in an article unlocked for everyone. We’ve also looked at Drake London, who I really liked. We got to know Chris Olave and Christian Watson, and then talked about Jameson Williams along with Jahan Dotson. George Pickens intrigued me as a player the Chiefs have a legitimate shot at drafting. I examined Garrett Wilson and Calvin Austin III’s film last week.

Today, we’re finalizing our group of receivers as we look at Alec Pierce, Jalen Tolbert and David Bell. I’m sorry to say that Skyy Moore film was not available enough for me to do an extensive film review on him, so this will be the last of our WR reviews (I’ve heard good things about Moore and will move heaven and earth to find some film if the Chiefs draft him).

Next, I’ll write about the different tiers I’d place each in and who I’d prioritize if I were Brett Veach. Then, time permitting, I’ll do a quick writeup on a few defensive ends. It’s going to be a busy week!
