GOATS in Making; Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are all-time greats
Taking a moment to appreciate seeing Hall of Fame careers play out in front of our eyes.
Sometimes, one needs to stop and smell the roses. Gaze at a sunset. Watch the waves of the ocean crash against a sandy beach. Listen to a baby laugh.
Or maybe marvel at two of the best football players to ever live just doing their thing.
The Chiefs, in a moment that proved time is indeed a flat circle and everything that has happened before will happen again, beat the Chargers in dramatic fashion last night and pulled out to a 3.5 (so really 4) game lead in the AFC West standings. There were many storylines that emerged from the game that I’ll want to look at this week: The pass rush, Isiah Pacheco, and Skyy Moore chief among them.
But first, Mahomes and Kelce. Kelce and Mahomes. On a day when Kansas City was missing 3 important players in their passing attack (Juju Smith-Schuster, the television-destroying Mecole Hardman, and newcomer Kadarius Toney), one of the most productive duos in NFL history was forced to shoulder more of the burden than normal. And as ever, they were up to the task, starting with an early 3rd and 8 where Kelce demonstrated, once again, that he’s always open and remains a menace in yards after the catch.
Mahomes knew where he was going start to finish on this play, and the Chargers actually sent extra help Kelce’s way. It just didn’t matter, as it hasn’t so many times with these two.
Let’s talk about greatness, the privilege of watching Mahomes and Kelce week after week, and how last night showed, once again, that we’re seeing Hall of Famers make their cases for GOAT status before our very eyes.
