Do the Chiefs need another offensive weapon? Looking at both sides of the argument
There's a strong case to be made that the answer is both yes and no, which always makes for a fun time.
The most hard-fought debates aren’t the ones where there’s an obvious answer on one side of the argument. Well, not usually at least.
When facts are plain to see, or lead to obvious conclusions, there’s not a ton of debate on an issue. There’s SOME, of course, because our very nature means we’ll argue with our own echoes if no one stops us. But in general, debates where only one side has a legitimate point to make aren’t very interesting and don’t generate much conversation. The ones that get people going, and leave people the most “dug in” on their side of the issue, are situations where both sides have some good points to make.
Which brings us to the Kansas City Chiefs and the question of whether they should pursue a “true #2” wide receiver this offseason.
It’s an issue that has been hotly debated over the last several days amongst Chiefs fans, and I’m not seeing an end in sight. And the reason for that, I think, is that there are good arguments to make on both sides (of course, those who are entrenched in their views will insist that’s not accurate and only their side has good arguments, but that’s just human nature).
It’s an interesting topic, and one that deserves to be explored a little more. And hey, if you’re into arguing on the internet, you may wish to be as well-equipped as possible to defeat your opponent in said debate. And so, let’s talk about the best arguments on both sides of the “do the Chiefs need to add another significant weapon on offense” issue.
We’ll start with the best arguments for why the Chiefs should NOT invest significant assets into upgrading their weapons outside of Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill, then examine the best arguments FOR doing exactly that. A “nays vs yaes,” if you will. And whatever side you decide you land on, you’ll be ready for the internet wars (also known as the NFL offseason) that are inevitable. Heck, I’ll even include a handy TLDR/Tweet summary of each argument. Because that’s what friends do!
